Lahul Spiti Motor Bike Expedition 2013

Every year youth of BHEL Bhopal take active participation in national and state level trekking expeditions conducted by YHAI every year. BHEL Bhopal unit of YHAI, beside organizing unit level trekking programs  also organize  educational and recreational activities for the members around the year .
For last few year it has become regular activity of unit to conduct motor bike and car expeditions. Motorbiking  and car expedition explore  rich and splendid culture and heritage accross the country. 
This time our  motor bikers have taken a challenge to explore one of the most tough and adventurous Lahaul and Spiti valley of Himachal pradesh.
  
Route :- Delhi, Shimla, Narkanda, Rampur, Sangla, Kalpa, Nako, Tabo, Kaza, Loser, Kunzum pass, batal, Chhatru, Rohtang pass,  Manali, Shimla Delhi

Expedition start date:  1st  July 2013
Expedition period: 12 days
Last date of registration: 18th May 2013 
Participants: only for YHAI members
Starting point: YHAI BHEL Bhopal unit office     
Day 01 Bhopal – Delhi ( by train)
Team will leave Bhopal by Bhopal express. Afternoon bike shall be booked at Habibganj station for transfer to H.Z (Delhi) station. Team will report at  Habibganj railway station (Bhopal) by 8PM and departure by evening Bhopal exp. Which leave Bhopal 9pm  and arrives Delhi 8.30 am next day.

Day 02 Delhi – Chandigarh – Pinjor - Shimla (368 km)
Bikes shall be taken from parcel room and fuel tanks shall be filled up to start journey towards Shimla. Team will halt at pinjor garden and will move next day after breakfast to Shimla

Day 03 Shimla – Stay for local visit and bike checking
Shimla is the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. In 1864, Shimla was declared the summer capital of the British Raj in India. The city is named after the goddess Shyamala Devi, an incarnation of the Hindu Goddess Kali.  Visiting place town hall,charch road,  lakkar bajar, jakho (hanuma mandir) etc. 

Day 04 Shimla – Sangla (231 km)
After breake start journey to kinnor valley Sangla,  in the way cross beautiful valley, river and mountain, and cross narkanda ( 64 km), Rampur (68 km) and reach sangla after 99 km

Day 05 Sangla - Nako ( 174 km).
After breakfast start journey for Nako. Local visit Nako monastery : The complex of monastery founded on western edge of the town comprising of four temples. From outside, the monastery exudes a very simple appearance, but this is in contrast to what you will see inside. Two temples are of utmost importance here, the Main temple and the Upper temple. Both these temples are considered to be built in 11th century by Lama Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo.I is the oldest amongst all the structures, still preserve their original clay sculptures, murals and ceiling panels. The largest temple or the main temple is also called the Translator's Temple. It also happens to be the oldest monument in the village. Nako is also the starting point of an ancient trek route originally Buddhist monks used to take traveling between different monasteries in the region.
Day 06 Nako - Kaza ( 121 km).
After breakfast start journey for Kaza. you will have full day sightseeing tour around Spiti valley. Kaza is district place and have all necessary amanities like hospital, petrol pump hotles etc.

Day 07-08 Kaza- Chhatru ( 111 km).
Post breakfast, continue ride bike to Chhatru. From Kaza, the first main village is Losar, about 60 km away. A little further on is the Kunzum La (4590m). From the pass, a 9 km trail goes to the lovely Chandratal (Moon Lake), at about 4250m. Batal is the starting point for treks to nearby Bara Shigri (Big Glacier), which is up to 10km. long and 1km wide - one of the longest glaciers in the Himalaya. There are a couple of dhabas (Small Food Corners) at Baal offering basic food. You rejoin Leh-Manali highway at Gyamru. Few kilometers approach you at Khoksar,which is desolate and regarded as the coldest place in Himachal Pradesh. There's a police check point here and you will need to get out and sign the register. Arrive chetru, overnight in camp.

Day 09 Chhatru- Manali ( 81km).
After breakfast ride to Manali. cross  Gramphu junction and Rohtang pass (3950m) and reach manali

Day 10 Manali – stay at Manali for local visit
visit Naggar Castle, Roerich Art Gallery, Hindu Temples and the hot springs in Vashisht. and  checkup the bike for onward  jouney.

Day 11 Manali –Delhi
Night stay at Delhi. booking of bike and rest

Day 12 Delhi – Bhopal 
( Return journey  by Bhopal express train) 
Day 13 Bhopal - Ready to share success

Must to carry:
1.       Registration papers of Bike, driving license, insurance
2.       Helmet and cap
3.       Hand Gloves
4.       Round neck T-shirts and Thermal Inners, Lower & Upper and sweater
5.       Windproof Jacket and rain coat.
6.       Track-suit
7.       Sports shoes with rubber sole and  gum boots
8.       Cotton Socks, Woolen Socks
9.       Full Body Towel
10.   Torch with spare batteries
11.   Sunscreen lotion, Toiletries
12.   Medicines as specified by doctor
13.   Sleeping Bag.
14.   Mobile with mobile Charger.
15.   Ropes 10m, 5 litter petrol cane
16.   Tools ( puncher kits, foot pump, spinner  etc)
Please Note:
  1. Being a high altitude expedition medical fitness certificate is must.
  2.  It is very important that you line the inside of your bags with a big polythene sheet. Doing so will ensure, that in the event of rain, even though your bag may get wet, your clothes will still remain dry!

Eligibility Age: 
The minimum age for joining the expedition is 21 years. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age will not be considered in any case
How to Apply:
Registrations forms will be made available shortly at  YHAI BHEL Bhopal unit  office and registration shall be confirmed only after receipt of registration fees. Please keep watch on web site
